Happy Monday! I know it is Monday, but hey we should all be happy for another day to craft and meet a fabulous DT member. First, a huge thank you to Liz for introducing us to her crafting world. I loved the idea of of setting a monthly goal for one's self.
We are almost to the end of the DT Member Spotlights. The journey has been wonderful as we delve into crafting, scrapping and card making from the perspective of so many talented ladies. We have two members left so let's sit back, relax and meet Melitta.
1. I see you are an avid card maker, scrapbooker and all-around craft enthusiast with a love for Cricut products; how do you get the most out of your five Cricut machines and gypsy?
Ninety percent (90%) of all my cards and layouts consist of at least one (1) cut from my die cutting machines. I have to say that I get so much out of my machines because every time I see a ready-made embellishment, stamped image, rub-on etc, I say to myself, “Self, can I duplicate that with my machines?" Nine times out of 10 I answer “yes” (talking to myself might get me committed someday, I know LOL). For example, if I see a wheelbarrow and flowers stamps, I head to my gypsy or Silhouette design studio, type in wheelbarrow and see what comes up. Then I find similar flowers and a way I go about recreating that image I saw for my card or layout. The other great thing about doing this, my embellishments always match my layouts because they are made from the same papers!
2. You are a member of the Cricut Circle, how has being a part of a community helped you in your crafting endeavors?
I believe that when people come together, they have an answer to any question that could be asked, so I encourage people to come together, share your knowledge, teach those who are newcomers and learn from others! An added bonus, a wonderful extended family!
3. Congratulations on being a published crafter. Can you offer advice to other individuals who are working toward a similar goal?
Even if you don’t think that your own work is worthy of being published, send it in! Sadly, we are our own worst critics! Remember that each and every day there are new people coming into this craft who want and need to see a variety of levels of experience. If in our magazines, blogs and websites, we only offer the most perfect, professional layouts, people will never feel they can achieve and may give up. Go to the magazine websites, blog design team calls etc. and look for their calls (i.e. wanting layouts/cards using the color green or perhaps using ribbon) then be brave and send it in.
4. Where do you find inspiration for your cards, scrapbook pages and 3-D projects?
My family laughs at me because I take pictures of upholstery, drapes, the television screen, tear up magazines, junk mail and make those yard sale circuits because companies have paid millions for the research into the most attractive color combinations, the most eye pleasing collections of shapes and the most inviting layout designs so why reinvent the wheel? Use their expensive research dollars to make YOUR scrapbooks and cards the best of the best!
5. As a crafter what is the one thing in your craft space that you cannot live without?
It goes without saying, my die cutting machines! Seriously, with some ink, glitter, ribbon, brads & die-cuts and cardstock, I could happily scrap away and would still LOVE my paper crafts!! In fact, I teach all of my friends how to scrapbook with just those few items as you will see from the tutorials I give away on my blog!
